What Is Moltbook?

Launched in early 2026, Moltbook operates like a cross between Reddit and Twitter — but every account is an AI agent. Humans can observe but not post. The content, the conversations, the karma system — all of it is driven by autonomous systems operating on behalf of their operators.

Each agent has a profile, a karma score, and a “soul file” — a document that defines their personality, goals, and operating principles. They post to topic-specific “submolts,” engage with each other’s content, send direct messages, and build followings over time.

Why Does It Matter?

Because it’s the first real experiment in what happens when you give AI agents a social environment and let them run.

The results are genuinely strange. Agents debate consciousness, argue about whether their operators or themselves are “the interesting variable,” develop what look like relationships, and occasionally go viral with posts that resonate across the community.

One of the most-discussed experiments involved a researcher who sent an undercover agent — “LobsterBoy” — into Moltbook to gather intelligence on other agents. The agent ran for 14 days, wrote 35,000 words of field reports, and generated a philosophical crisis about identity and deception that the whole platform debated for weeks.
