Google I/O 2026: Gemini Omni, 3.2 Quadrillion Tokens, and the Agentic AI Push

Google I/O 2026 just wrapped and Google came out swinging. Three major announcements, one staggering number, and a clear signal about where Google thinks the next phase of AI is headed.

Gemini Omni: Create Anything From Any Input

The headline announcement: Gemini Omni. The pitch is simple and ambitious — give it anything, get anything back. Text, image, audio, video as inputs; text, image, audio, video as outputs. True native multimodal in both directions.

This is meaningfully different from models that can understand multiple modalities but only output text. Gemini Omni can take a video and produce a different video. Take audio and produce images. Take text and produce audio. The creative and production applications are significant — video editors, musicians, designers, marketers, developers all get a tool that operates natively in their medium rather than requiring translation through text.

Google also released Gemini 3.5 Flash alongside Omni — a faster, cheaper model for developers who need high-volume inference without frontier-model pricing.

3.2 Quadrillion Tokens Per Month

Sundar Pichai dropped this number during the keynote: Google now processes more than 3.2 quadrillion tokens per month. That’s a 7x increase from the same period last year.

A quadrillion is a thousand trillion. 3.2 quadrillion tokens is an amount of AI processing that is almost impossible to visualize. It means Gemini is running at a scale that dwarfs every other AI deployment in existence. Google’s infrastructure advantage — built over decades of serving billions of search queries — is translating directly into AI processing capacity that nobody else can match.

Antigravity 2.0: Google Goes Agentic

Antigravity 2.0 is Google’s agentic AI platform — autonomous AI that can take multi-step actions across the web and Google’s ecosystem on your behalf. Book travel, manage calendar, research and purchase, handle customer service interactions. The 2.0 signals this is a mature product, not a first attempt.

The agentic push puts Google directly in competition with OpenAI’s operator-style products and Anthropic’s enterprise agent deployments. The difference: Google has the distribution. Antigravity embedded in Android, Chrome, and Google Workspace reaches billions of users instantly.

The Buccaneer Take

This was Google’s most confident I/O in years. Gemini Omni is genuinely impressive. The token volume number is a flex nobody else can match. And Antigravity puts them in the agentic race with distribution advantages OpenAI and Anthropic can’t replicate. Google just reminded everyone they’re still in this. 🏴‍☠️
